Haynesworth signing tender, Titans need to be prepared to pay after season

    Posted by ESPN.com's Paul Kuharsky
Titans fans can exhale - Albert Haynesworth isn't going to miss camp.
He and the Titans found common ground and he's signing his franchise tender.
We don't know the incentives tied to Haynesworth earning his way out of a possible franchise tag yet. We do know the key to the Titans securing him for what should be the prime of his career.
If he has a second consecutive dominant season, they're going to have to open the vault for him.
Because if he meets the incentives and can't be tagged, if he gets close to free agency, someone will give him a monstrous contract that's going to be well beyond what the fiscally conservative Titans would usually want to offer.
It will be time for them to change their approach and lock him up by bowling him over in the weeks between the end of the regular season and the start of free agency.

SUMMARY: The Titans and Albert Haynesworth have reached a deal which will mean the All-Pro DT will take part in training camp. After weeks of negotiations, Haynesworth will sign his one-year tender as the team’s franchise player and earn $7.25. As part of the deal he could become an unrestricted free agent next season if he reaches certain incentives in the contract. The terms of the agreement have not yet been released. Last season Haynesworth was voted to the Pro Bowl for the first time and to the Associated Press All-Pro first team after racking up 69 tackles, six sacks and 23 QB pressures in 13 games.

Awesome. Good to see Albert cooperating unlike many big name players around the league when it comes to being tagged.

All of his teammates gave him an extremely hard time when he was in the locker room giving his press conference. He had things thrown at him, at one point.

The incentives are reasonable since three of the four happened last season:

He has to do one of the following four...

    1. Play 60% of the snaps.
    2. Makes the Pro Bowl.
    3. Play 53% of the snaps and the Titans win 10 games.
    4. Play 53% of the snaps and the Titans D finish the season ranked in the top five in total defense.

Last season, missing three games, he played 53.5% of the snaps.

I'm sure one of those will happen barring serious injury, or extreme suckitude. Hopefully, we get a deal done quickly, like 5 seconds after the season ends.
