Saw this movie called "Fly Away" the other day and just wanted some opinions on the girl's performance. Those that are autistic or know people that are, especially to the same degree as her character, how accurate would you say her portrayal was?

I grew up around a few autistic kids. None of them really acted like the girl in the trailer.

It's really hard to say whether or not the girl in the movie portrays autism the way I've seen it. A 2 minute trailer doesn't tell me enough about her. I know a few people with autism, and in my experience, there's no right or wrong way to act, each case is different. Each situation is different. Autistic kids put a serious strain on a relationship, so the girl only having a mother makes sense. I once went on a road trip with a kid with autism, he acted like Jim Carey the whole way to Florida, but I like Jim Carey so I didn't mind him one bit.

yeah, autism is a variety of things. With not a really clear cut definition of what it entails, with varying degrees of severity.. Like the guy from American Idol was mildly autistic, while there were kids I've seen that repeat the same lines over and over and over again. Some are way out of touch with reality, some are pretty much fully "with it."

I used to do christmas parties for group homes, and still do music for the Easter Seals, so I've seen a lot of them. they're generally really pleasant to be around, and happy.
