The injuries to tight ends Delanie Walker and Craig Stevens could give Taylor Thompson more of an opportunity in the team’s passing game, but Thompson still appears to be a work in progress in that aspect of the attack.

A fifth-round pick in 2012, Thompson has only been targeted six times this season, and all of those have come in the past four weeks. The former collegiate defensive end has three catches for 13 yards.

Thompson has, however, continued to impress as a blocker and on special teams.

“Obviously you’d like him to be involved in the passing game a little bit, but we’re going to play to his strengths,” Titans offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains said. “Right now, his strengths are definitely in the run game. I thought he did a nice job helping us there (against Indianapolis), in protection and in the run game. He does have the ability to run routes and Ryan (Fitzpatrick) did target him two or three times.”

As for his play in the passing game, Loggains said Thompson is still learning to get a feel for the position.

“As he plays more, you’d like to think he continues to grow in that position,” Loggains said. “Still, that’s his biggest challenge as a football player is evolving as a pass-catcher and a route-runner. I think it’s the feel, the distribution of timing and becoming a route-runner because there is an art to that.”

So we have a small, spare offensive Tackle? Cool. Those are pretty hard to come by.

Why in the heck does Colt Lyerla have to be such a waste? Part of me just wants to take a flier on him in the 6th round, but guy is a complete thug. Can you imagine a TE core with Delanie Walker, Taylor Thompson, and a Colt Lyerla? His problems go beyond Vontaze Burfict, but man.. if we could get him in the 6th and have a similar turn around? Wishful thinking....

TT was a beast making a tackle on one of the Fitz picks. Those DE tackling skills might really come in handy in Denver.

Maybe he'd be better if the Titans used TEs all season long... and not just Walker.

Another blame to the offensive scheme.
