I realize the FA acquisition is far from over, but I think it is fair to hand out a grade "THUS' far. I also agree we are re-building but we should be in year 2 or 3. Letting Travis go, to pick up another vet back doesn't seem that smart to me. It suggests the philosophy that we should save cap for later and get a better back (or retain one). Same for the Bobby Wade issue.

What signing do you think was an "A" move thus far? I can't think of one.

What release was an "A" move thus far? IMO, the Bennett was, but that's it.

We started this period with what 30 million in cap space? How much do we have now? I'm guessing we've got more than that now with the releases (if that makes sense- admittedly I don't know how to calculate what is left)

Just how much cap space do we need for next year?

Wait a minute- you are what you are. I don't buy into the "over-achieving" argument any more than I believe in making excuses when we lose.

As far as spending money, I agree there is a difference between wasting and spending. But it is a waste not to use (invest) available cap space to strenghten the team. Proportionately, we have a lot to spend without putting us and jeopardy for cap hell. IMO, MR has missed on "investment" opportunities.

So I ask the question: Just how much cap space do we need for next year?

  4. If you ignore the wins and losses and focus on the stats, the Titans don't look anything like a 8-8 team. Even if you look at the last half of the year, they don't look like a team that finished 6-1.

They will still use cap money to strengthen the team. That isn't limited to signing new free agents to giant contracts. That also counts extending current players and signing solid guys to fill holes.

Right now we have about $21.5M in cap room (let's say $18M after paying for rookies). $18M can go quick, even if you aren't picking up big name players. If they extend Bell and add a few solid players they can spend that easily.

I actually agree with starkiller. We did over achieve.

I'm just wondering if one of the "secret" FAs in town isn't Chris Brown... We could have definitely used a guy like Clements. We could have used one of the several DEs that have been floating around out there. Instead, we are sitting around talking to Chris Brown. I have nothing personal against Chris, but the guy isn't cut out for playing a whole drive at RB. He gets banged up in just about every game he plays and has a hard time recovering. I think that the "straight-up" running style that he has displayed in the past has beaten him down a little too much. That's just my opinion. We are definitely not getting into any hurry in FA, but hopefully someone has a plan... Seeing CB back so early really makes me doubt that though...

Free agency just started on Friday. It is not a sprint to the finish line. We are going about it wisely. There will be plenty more players to shake loose. We went after Clements, and lost out. What more do you really want? Adalius Thomas might not have been a good fit anyway, we don't know, but it looked like he and New England were already talking. Donte Stallworth has yet to even visit. Seattle had an inside track on Kerney due to Mora. Steinbach drove straight to Cleveland from Cincinnati.

I don't think many of you are looking at this thing realistically. Other players will be cut later, in the summer, the draft is part of free agency, and trades happen on draft time. There will be cuts and pickups all the way through the preseason.

One bit of good news is we might end up with Reggie McKenzie after the draft to fill the lead personnel position with the Titans. Then we would have a more complete brain trust - a GM, a personnel specialist and a cap specialist.

Bring Reggie on. I was hoping he'd get the GM job.

That's fair enough. I agree with the Clements and Bennett decision, I'm not certain about the Henry decision (I actually think we missed on that one). Only time will tell if it was smart to let him go if LW gets over 1,000 or CB can be re-signed for cheap. I'm lukewarm about the Collins decision- I think we could have done better.

We'll see about Stallworth- I'm not sold he's the answer, especially for what we'd pay. I'd like to see Bobby Wade back. Not sure about Curtis or Jackson either.

Honestly- I'll quit whining about it. I'm sure we'll make some moves for depth. I just think seeing some early solid signings that filled holes would have given me alot more confidence that MR has a game-winning strategy in place.
