I stumbled upon this while looking for the Jef Lee Johnson video I posted ealier in the thread (Johnson is an amazing guitarist who really shuns the spot light... so video of him is rare).

This video features Johnson, bass player Jeff Berlin and drummer Rodney Holmes. It from a series called Studio Jams. I only just discovered it, but it reminds me of the old David Sanborn show called ...Night Music(?). It's basically a bunch of top musicians jamming while the viewer sits in. It's awesome. They've got a bunch of stuff up on YouTube.

I like to listen to this song at the end of a long day, sitting alone with feet propped up and drink in hand. Reflecting through all the BS and trying to remember what really matters and why I put up with all the BS...I can listen to it over and over...

That's the amazing thing about music isn't it? I think if it wasn't for the theraputic qualities of music I'd have put a bullet in my head years ago (I'm pretty sure I'm just joking... but I can't imagine how I'd manage to get through life's grind without it). It just such a personal experience... yup, I can't imagine being without it.

I'm fortunate enough to have found a ton of artists whose music reaches me on a very intimate level. I'm having a fantastic stretch, business is good, love life is amazing, spectacular fall weather, enjoying the rebirth of the double blue, yadda yadda yadda... Right now I'm listening to an awesome track by Cassandra Wilson called Piper from her album Travelling Miles (a tribute to Miles Davis). Sadly there's no YouTubage available that would allow me to share it's awesomeness... hehehe.

I think this might be my favourite reflective piece... but again there are just so many great tunes to choose from.

Duke and the Trane... the very definition of sublime.

I agree with you about music, TB. Some music can change your mood, help you to focus or escape, reminisce, make a long trip seem shorter, or motivates you to action.

However, I've never wanted to be one of those people you see going everywhere with ipod and earbuds in. It's good to listen to the earth first, and music in moderation...

Anyway, I like how Chris Botti performs with artists from a variety of music genres...here he is with Steven Tyler singing like most people have never heard him sing like before...

Awesome clip!!!!! I love the song and to see him perform it with a simple trio is really cool. I've got a few of the small band albums he did with Johnny Hodges, they're some of my favourite Ellington recordings.

It's amazing (and a litle sad) that so many of the clips you see of these greats are from European tv shows.
