    This is hilarious.

Everyone here has raging hard-ons for Eric Berry, but calls Taylor Mays a "workout warrior" and a bad pick?

You guys have been sipping too much orange koolaid.

Taylor Mays' stats are right below Berry's even with him being injured this year. People pretending the gap is so wide is almost as funny as everyone forgetting about a guy named Morgan Burnett.

    it must be offseason

    It must be the offseason!
The only worthwhile thing to do is scour the net for mock drafts and then either count our lucky stars that we're projected to get player A or curse the football Gods that we're getting a loser and then debate the merits of having him on our team. Hey, everybody has their favorites!
For once in recent memory; we have a 'lot' of needs so whichever we we go; it should be fun. The only DE I have a particular liking for is Graham but I think we could get him by trading down a few spots. Then again I thought we could get CJ by trading down a few spots and in retrospect glad we didn't risk it. Berry,Rolondo McClain, Spiller, Mays, Bryant, Graham, Witherspoon, Haden, Kyle Wilson, Spikes, Golden Tate would be my order of preference.
Regarding Taylor Mays; I want to go on record and say that if we draft him there is no doubt in my mind he will be a fan favorite by the middle of his rookie year. He would probably bring more exposure for the Titans because ESPN would bring back "Jacked Up" and he'd be the punisher week in and week out. :)

    Um...

This would be a BIG risk...even riskier than drafting him to play S. Mays is a phenominal athlete who has the speed of a Ferrarri and hits like a Mack truck. The bad is that he's not fluid in his hips so he wouldn't be good in coverage as a LB, takes poor angles, and is not adept at working through trash. It would be better to draft him to play S and see if you can develop his coverage skills at S from whatever he's got and use his strengths (speed and hitting ability) to let him roam a deep zone. If he fails at that you make him an in the box S and see how that works before trying to give him a new position to learn with new footwork, assignments, techniques, ect.

If you watched practices of the Senior Bowl when the db's would go one v one with WR's...Mays many times played WAY off guys because he was afraid of getting beat deep. If he has all this tremendous speed, why would he play so far off...because he's got stiff hips and loses alot in transition.

He's gonna need a LOT of coaching but he's a big boom or bust player. Players with his size/speed/hitting ability don't come around...but how well will it translate into the NFL is the question.

    Um...

I agree he's one of if not THE fastest guy on the field. No one is questioning his speed and hitting (though he frequently looks to knock WR's out rather than play the ball and he sometimes takes bad angles). Can he COVER and what kind of coverage instincts does he have?

As for this play shown, at the time of the catch, Mays is only about 10yds away and running full speed and has the angle while the guy catching it is barely moving when he catches the ball. Of course, if Mays had 4.5 speed it's a TD...

    Well...

You can't JUST go by stats...you have to look at what they both can do physically. Berry can play all 4 DB spots on your defense and has the movement ability of cb in coverage, has excellent in the box footwork, instincts and ability and can be used in a variety of ways (blitzing, zone coverage, man coverage, in the box free hitter, cb playing man or zone, S playing man, deep middle, cover 2, ect.

Mays can do some of those things and certain things he can do a little better...but he has a lot of limitations and you'd almost have to tailor the position and your defense to maximize him.

Berry has better overall athleticism, instincts, tackling ability (whiffs less), coverage ability and the ability to play multiple positions...perhaps all at a pro bowl level.

Notice that USC kept in deep centerfield where it'd be hard for anyone to beat him deep and where he can use his best attributes (speed in a straight line and hitting ability) while Ten was able to move Berry all over the place and have him be the guy they used to take something away...be it outside runs, qb runs (Tebow), a TE, deep passes...whatever.

I don't understand why changing positions would help. If he can't play the one he's played his whole life, why would changing positions suddenly make him a great player?

This is also a great point. If he can't play well at his natural position, how can he be better moving to another. Just saying.

But how do we know S was natural to him? Maybe he would have been more comfy at LB?!?!?!
