Klug was just fine subbing in for Fowler.

Jeez dude. Yup. I'm balling my eyes out over here. Damn you know me so well!!!

Remember when we finished 3rd in the league in rushing? Fowler played in 18% of the offensive snaps. Maybe, just maybe, there's a slight correlation there. Or maybe not. Also, he logged 85 snaps on ST since you brought it up. And I'd argue he's quite versatile. Look at his college production. The only thing you're right about, is that he was stuck in a 70s offense, but that doesn't make him a 70s style FB. He's far from it.

The 49ers have a rare difference maker at FB... because Shanahan signed him! Highest paid FB of all time. It's not like he inherited him. Shanahan purposely brought him over. Bringing in a good FB was a priority for him, just like it was when he was the OC in Atlanta with DiMarco.

In the last 3 years, the only patriots defensive player to log multiple snaps on offense, was Devin McCourty, with 3 snaps. I'm sure he was just blowing people up. Yet for some reason, the pats still used a FB in over 30% of the offensive snaps. That's back to back seasons with over 30% and finished second in % used in both years.

Got any more inaccurate stamens you'd like to make? I'd love to see a list of "lowlights" showing him missing blocks or getting pushed back, if you can find it.

And the other 82% of the snaps when he wasn't on the field didn't contribute to the #3 rushing attack?

"Fowler had been on the field for only one special-teams play this season after playing 273 in 2015 and 85 in 2016."

Tennessee Titans release fullback Jalston Fowler
When your FB plays 86 special teams plays in almost two full seasons and around 12% of the offensive snaps, he's a waste of a roster spot.
I don't really care about college production when his NFL production was diddly squat.

Bringing in good players is always a priority. That's why Jalston Fowler is not a 53-man roster.

Did I say they used defensive players in that role recently? No. I said they've done it, which is absolutely accurate. They started the modern trend of going without a true FB and using linemen or defensive players as offensive specialists. Our new HC was used as a goal line TE.

Why are we talking about a guy who played 12% of the offensive snaps and had a grand total of 16 touches in three years? How is that irreplaceable?

NFL has outgrown the FB position, there are better ways to move the ball forward now.. Fowler was definitely a wasted roster spot..
