I'd also argue the overall improvement to our ST. They're not perfect sure, but improved definitely.

No we opted for the cheaper free agents in every single aspect this off-season. I'm not about spending frivalously but when your top of the league in cap space and bottom of the league in pass defense and you add a box safety as your most expensive addition things don't add up.

Except they did add a CB, and drafted another. Both have been good additions. What they haven't done is play real-life Madden like everyone here wants and sign everyone imaginable just because they can.

If we are at the point where we are a piece or two away from a championship team, then spending big in FA makes sense. But that won't happen with Mularkey around.

What does Mularkey have to do with the way they spend in FA?

Everything is Mularkey’s fault. You didn’t know that?!?!? Lol

If Dodd had been what they thought we would be much better on D. With a great pass rush average DBs look good. Coaches rarely make decisions regarding acquiring players or the pay. They tell the GM what position needs to be addressed and hope for the best.

Because if you spend big in FA, you do so to win now at the risk of cap complications I in the future. We will not win now, nor as long as Mularkey is around. Signing big FAs right now is not worth having a messy cap situation in the future. If someone else is in charge next year, that's different.

Problem with that theory is the owner doesn't see Mularkey as a problem. They're not saving money now to spend more after he's gone. This looks like more of what JRob may actually continue doing in the future although I hope I'm wrong.

I agree you can't just cripple the salary cap every year especially if you don't think this year is a potential SB run.
