You don't need an income if you're planning on living in a cardboard box either. That's the way I see it. How is it not spending the money wisely if it's an UPGRADE? We have the money, we're sitting on it. We don't get to keep it all, do we?

if he physically is unable to play, which is what physicals are supposed to determine, what is the point of spending big money on him?

I doubt he failed the physical, in that case we would have heard about it by now, as these things leak pretty quickly. However you're loath to throw money at a 33 year old DE if he has just the slightest question marks.

Mr. Smarty Pants, players DO get blood work when they are brought in. A player's PT/INR would be important to know since they are constantly smashing into each other and are subject to cuts and bruises. If a player has an abnormal PT/INR result, the team physician would want to know if the player is taking an excessive amount of aspirin or is on some sort of coumadin therapy. If not, then there are other underlying issues that would make a team hesitate to sign a player.

Teams do thorough blood work on a player before they sign him. Not just for playing purposes, but also it's a liability issue. If they signed a guy without doing a thorough exam, once the player is signed, then the team owns that disease or illness. Do you want to sign a player to a multi-year, multi-million dollar contract then a week into camp, he has a spreading internal hematoma and THEN you find out he had a pre-existing blood clotting issue?

So what does that have to do with knowing if a previous shoulder injury is totally healed?
