  1. No, we would (will?) save $10M, which is the value of his base salary plus option bonus. He has no future guaranteed money to accelerate, so there is no extra cap hit.

    What about his pro rated signing bonus? We can't just eliminate all that by dumping a guy. According to the nfl players association we only save $4.4M.
     
  4. That's right. But that's the other $13M that he'll count either way. Normally future cap dollars from guaranteed money is accelerated when a player gets cut, but McNair's contract runs out after 2006 anyway so there is no money to accelerate.

    That's from back before they declined his $50M option bonus. When they declined that, the future money all rolled into this year (into the $23M cap figure).
