It was a down year for SEC defense and he blew up in a couple of early non-competitive games. When Mizzou really needed to make a play, Malik Golden or Shane Ray subbed for him.

People were ripping him apart as a prospect before he came out.

Remember when you muf**ckers over-exaggerate EVERYTHING?

I said he was being shunned for being gay and that if any other SEC DPOY was being considered- they'd be hyped like crazy. Like they always are.

Regardless of if they're good or not.

Because most SEC fans support merit. Not political correctness. There was a deafening silence from KNOWLEDGEABLE football fans because they were smart enough to know that talent declares itself in the end. If there is any criticism it should be on the SEC coaches that voted him "player of the year". The dude washed out of 2 leagues because he didn't have NFL talent.

You'd have a point if almost every other SEC DPOY wasn't garbage...

    But nope. Sorry.

Patrick Willis, Patrick Peterson, cj Moseley, ..... Right.

But I get what you're saying. SEC DPOY is what the coaches vote for best COLLEGE attributes of a player. It doesn't always translate to the pro game. The SEC still fields a significant % of the top NFL defenders. The SAMs DPOY was a bad mark on the SEC coaches. Hard for me to believe they weren't pressured/encouraged by other administrators to give him "extra" consideration.

I don't think that is the case.

It was just a down year that year. That was the year that there were a lot of 51-45 shootouts and no one could stop anyone. Mizzou had a great season, he had 3 player of the weeks, and led the league in sacks and tackles for loses. Mosley split it with him and he didn't really make a ton of plays besides gettting tackles for a down Alabama team (by their standards).

It was Clowney's to win and he had a garbage season.

    Speaking of overrated SEC players...

If Clowney would have come out as gay, he wouldn't have to be known as the greatest bust in NFL history.

Clowney hasn't shown anything in the NFL, but the greatest bust in NFL history is Jamarcus Russell. Though Ryan Leaf isn't too far behind, nor is any Qb the Browns have drafted in the first round over the past 20 years.

Only because of the attention that goes to the QB position.

Clowney was the most hyped player coming out of college in forever- and for very little reason. Other than ONE hit he made.

At least Jamarcus Russell played football. Clowney can't even say that.
