Pure Speculation - Is Derrick Henry on the Move?

Henry is just not that good, regardless yesterday's performance.

He's another Trent Richardson.

Zero acceleration

 

Henry was never going to be an All-Pro. He is, however, a lot better than he has looked so far this year. He's getting 8-12 touches per game with very little blocking. The 2 things Henry needs are touches and blocking.

My guess would be that Henry is an above average or better back on well blocked plays (relative to other backs with the same blocking) and a below average back on poorly blocked plays (most plays have looked pretty poorly blocked).

I'm still pro Henry despite the debacle we've seen this year from our offense. Im giving most of the blame to the OL. Every RB needs some sort of hole to drive through. Henry is running into a brick wall more of less every down, getting contacted frequently behind the line of scrimmage too. When there has been a crease (only a handful of times this season) he has got to the second level and rumbled forwards. He looked hungry for more against Buffalo and we went away from him.

Sure he's made the wrong decision here and there but come on... Gurley would suck behind this line. We know Henry just needs a bit of space and he has the ability to take it to the house. Teams are stacking the box too as we aren't winning 1 on 1 matchups outside as we are not a threat downfield. We basically have no identity right now offensively.

 

Henry deserved more carries on Sunday

 

He's not shifty. His play-making abilities are speed and power. He's not going to be successful when consistently getting hit before or at the line of scrimmage.

I personally don't think his skill set is all that conducive to the NFL. I said that when he was coming out. I do, however, think we could get more out of him than we currently are.
