I thought I'd post this about pro day workouts. I like reading through these every year. You get to read a little about guys who weren't necessarily invited to the Combine as well, plus I like Gil Brandt (get to hear him on Sirius frequently).

A couple of things caught my eye, and the first one I wonder if it's accurate. These are from the Arkansas pro day.

    "CB Jamar Love measured in at 6-0 1/8, 191 pounds. He ran a 4.39 and a 4.35 in the 40. He had a 34 1/2-inch vertical, a 10-foot broad jump, a 4.07 short shuttle, a 6.88 three-cone drill and 10 bench presses."

"Interesting to note: Alex Mortensen, ESPN NFL reporter Chris Mortensen’s son, worked out in front of not only the scouts, but also his father. He was 6-1 1/4, 222 pounds. He ran a 4.18 40-yard dash, had a 33 1/2-inch vertical, a 9-foot, 7-inch broad jump and 21 bench press reps. Wasn’t able to do the short shuttle or the three-cone drill because he pulled a hamstring during his second 40-yard dash. He did do position drills.

These added times are courtesy of Chris Mortensen, who called in to make sure they were added after he noticed they were missing yesterday."

I'm just not sure how to take this? I don't know if it's a misprint. Probably hand-timed(?), I dunno, but I'd like to hear a follow-up to that. I may e-mail.

    From Montana:

"Montana, traditionally a powerhouse in what is now the Football Championship Subdivision (or FCS, formerly Division I-AA), has played in four FCS title games since 2000, winning it all in 2001. In fact, Brandon Fisher, the son of Tennessee Titans coach Jeff Fisher, plays linebacker for the Grizzlies and will be a senior next season."

    From Delaware:

"Larry Beavers, a 5-10, 167-pound WR/KR from Wesley, ran the 40 in 4.37 and 4.43, had a 37-inch vertical jump, 10-foot, 1-inch long jump, 4.40 short shuttle, and 7.27 three-cone drill. Beavers was a phenomenal return specialist for Wesley — he had 10 career kickoff returns for touchdowns and three punt return TDs."

4.18? That has to be hand timed.

Hand timed and the timer waited three strides into the run before starting the clock.

Most all pro day 40s ARE hand-timed. So, it's safe to say it was.
This is why these kids always run faster on pro days or skip the combine 40 to run at their pro day.

Love looks like the kind of kid we might use our 7th rd pick on. Despite such impressive speed he was not a regular starter at arkansas.

    Something wrong there.

Nfl draft scout ranks him as the 50th best CB prospect. Ouch! Maybe he will get drafted or signed with the idea of moving him to safety.

    Um...

    He's kinda small for a Safety at 6' and 190lbs...why wouldn't we just draft a S?

We're drafting safety next year. Actually, we're going to intentionally lose 9 games just so we're in position to draft Morgan Burnett.
