Pick 116 of the 2019 NFL Draft: Amani Hooker, S, Iowa

I felt like going into this draft that there was no absolute need in any single position which gives us the opportunity to take the best available players regardless of position. Well, except for QB but we will have to wait until next year for that.

 

Depth at safety was an obvious need. After Byard and Vacarro we have Cruikshank. That it.

In these modern 4 safety alignments, Hooker is a more than competent addition who could push for more playing time almost immediately. A top 10 safety in the 4th round. Wtf Jrob.

 

I think that he'll win the SS job. He'll definitely outsnap Vaccarro on obvious passing downs. Looks like a SS version of Byard.

This guys SS film isnt impressive

His FS and NB tape is respectable

 

He's a chess piece. Elite instincts, big hitter. Made QBs look like poo when they tested his area of the field. He closes in on the ball , seems to process the play more quickly than anyone around him. Good ball skills, good game speed. We'll love this guy sooner rather than later.
