After yesterdays game I'm not sure which of the following issues is Mariota's biggest.

    • Too often decides on receiver pre-snap and doesn't go through progressions
    • Doesn't have the zip to complete screen passes on the outside
    • Doesn't have the accuracy to hit receivers in stride (or even wide open receivers at times)
    • Waits until a receiver has made his cut before he trusts the throw
    • Doesn't seem to read the defense the same way the receivers do (related to above issue)
    • Is getting happy feet in the pocket (he was actually better when he was injured)

The worst thing the Titans can do right now is keep Mariflota in the pocket. He's absolutely terrified of standing in the pocket, he's skittish, he feels people at his feet when they aren't there, he wants to bail, it's in his head.

Get him out on rollouts, move the launch point, something to help his feeble sense of security.

I wonder if he's still not mentally over the leg injury. Also, he apparently suffered a knee injury yesterday which would explain why his footwork was so off late in the game and he wasn't stepping into throws.

He does throw it away when he rolls out, but I think the reason is because there's often only 2-3 guys even running routes due to the jumbo formations. They don't seem to utilize bootlegs and rollouts which could be a strength. This comes down to coaching, scheme and play calling. The main reason I'm a firm believer that the coaching staff needs to go, regardless of record this year. Next year will just be more of the same if they don't.

This would make a lot of sense. They should have been doing this all year. But that's on the coaches.

He still hasn't learned how to climb the pocket. It's year 3.

    It's worrisome.

He never steps into his throws anyway.

Here’s the biggest question does the coaching staff not open up the game plan because they still don’t trust Mariota to make good decisions and accurate passes deep ?? Seems like we try too many gadget plays like we are always trying to make up for our bad offense and have no confidence that we can just run a straight forward game plan and beat teams with our offense straight up ...
