Okay, I always wondered about this, and The fact that Chris Johnson is kind of a WR and RB...

Reggie Bush pleaded to the NFL a few years ago to keep his number, 5, from college, and was rejected.

Devin Hester is now officially a WR, yet he is number 23. The "rules" say WRs have to be 11-19 and 80-89, I think it is.

what stops the Saints from saying that Reggie is a quarterback or a kicker and giving him his number? I mean, you can legally have 2 QBs on the field, even if he never took a direct snap in his whole career. They would never call a penalty unless a back had a lineman's number (50-79) or a lineman had a back's number.

In this case, any running back, ala Chris Henry, should be able to get his number 19 if he wanted it, because it isn't illegal to line up a TE or WR in the backfield and hand it off to them. I guess all you have to do is call them a reciever, right?

I know this sounds trivial, but it's important enough to some people to make a case about it to the "Powers that be"

Anyone got any thoughts on this???

actually on the bears website, he's only listed as a KR/PR. No rules on that.

the way i look at it, as long it's an eligible number, any WR, RB or TE should be able to wear 10-49 and 80-89.

I think these men that are making millions to play football should take whatever number they are given and not put up a fuss about it.

those aren't pass receiving eligible numbers. if a player wearing a number 1-9 lines up on the line of scrimmage, he has to check in as eligible.
