Carpy, I just saw SiCKO. It's a documentary from Michael Moore about how terrible the health care is in America. You should try to get a hold of it. Really good watch.

A "pediatrician" is a general care prac in the US for children. It is under the assumption that you have a Dr. that specializes in child health and not adult health. I can think of a lot worst American medical BS things then this. I am not trying to offend but seriosuly .. you should have a Dr. who specializes in pediatric health ... it just makes more sense to have a Dr. who knows more about child health as the Dr. then some guy who has given proctal exam to a 60 yr old minutes before.

We have pediatricians in Australia, and whenever my kids have an ailment that is unique to children I would go to my pediatrician (i.e. tests for childrens diabetes etc). But for general things like infected finger, or even the flu or a sprained wrist, I don't see why I need to see a "specialist".

I actually needed to get a new prescription for blood pressure medication (having been popping pills for hypertension since I was 19). I have found a number of places where I can test my BP for free which is good.

I do not mean to go off of this topic but think about what you are saying. If your daughter god forbid was seriously sick would you want some high school grad popping her pills and telling her she will 'Be fine" only later to find out the guy had no clue what he was doing to get your daughter seriously sick, lose a limb (finger), or even worst ... ? to me my daughters health is a worth more then $10 and a pat on the back. Yeah 95% of the time the good that works at Walgreen’s is probably correct but would you bet your daughters life on it?

I could tell you horror stories from Kaiser that would make you want to get the best Dr. in the states over a cold ... again what is is worth ... how often do you or your kids get sick that this is an issue?

People in the US are sew happy because they want a correct diagnosis the first time. You can complain all you want and there are defiantly instances where even the best are wrong but if you were about to go under the knife ... would you want to have some guy who might have been half stoned through his exams?
