Which one of you predicted this??
That formation does several things. The trips strong and Walker weak forces the safety to freeze when Mariota looks that direction. Opens the post route like the Decker touchdown. Also serves to spread the field so Mariota can find running lanes like his 17 yard run. If the defense adjusts to the strong side, you can then check to a weak side trap to Henry like his long TD run. Almost every big play we had in the game was from that formation (or a similar one) including the Mariota TD pass to himself.
Interesting. Havent seen the sets line up like that like I did last game.
Let's hope this was a sign that the coaching staff is finally starting to add in some wrinkles that accentuate our players strengths. Of course the Pats staff has probably already seen the film and planned accordingly. For this formation to work again we will also have to adapt by showing the same looks, but running different routes and different designed run/draw/screen plays.
That's the point I'm trying to get across though. Everybody had a share of the blame not least Peters for playing smart
Im assuming these places are in downtown but the fans reactions were awesome and exactly how I’m sure we all felt when it happened. Mariota’s td play was a rollercoaster ride and Decker’s drop well .... we all said what the guy yelled in the background lol.
worth a few minutes
Smith dropped an easy one too.
Mariota looks so much more comfortable in those 3 WR sets from the shotgun.
What I also noticed was how little separation our WRs got with the exception of Decker on the TD. I hope we see more rubs and quick slants on Saturday.
