The force out rule is gone. I like. Anything that gets judgement calls out of the game is good.

The facemask is now 15 yards regardless. I'm not sure about that one as a defender may now "get his money's worth" if he makes contact with the facemask.

Teams get to defer their decison when they win the coin toss until the second half.

"The 5-yard penalty for incidental contact with a facemask has been eliminated, with the 15-yarder remaining for any grasping or twisting of the facemask."

i don't think it's 15 yards regardless. the 5 yarder has been done away with while the grasping and twisting 15 yarder is still in action.

You may like the no force out rules demise now but within the year you will wish it was still in. The defense can now hit you while you are in the air and send you flying 12 feet out of bounds, or you are 5 feet in bounds, then get hit while in the air and are only able to place one foot down and 3/4's of your other foot. Clearly you would have been in bounds with no contact, is now incomplete. First time it happens to the Titans listen to the howls.

The force out rule is going to be a huge change to how the game is played. No longer will teams just throw a fade to the corner of the end zone because now defenders will concentrate on knocking them out of bounds. I'm also curious about the face mask change, maybe they're just trying to get all judgement calls out of the game.

I think it affects just about every facet of the game. From the draft, to coaching, to the players. Tall recievers will still be in demand, just less so. I think that recievers that can get seperation just became that much more of a neccesity. Coaches on defense will take advantage of it, OC's will have to adjust thier playcalling. I think too much advantage to the defense is given by the width of the field being shortened by 2-5 yards. Out patterns just became a lot less sure.
I just remember before the force out rule all the plays that should have been considered completions yet were not and how unfair it seemed. A shove could turn a beautiful play into misery.

Is there a 10-yard facemask penalty? I thought the only ones were 5 yards and 15 yards.

Color me surprised that they made a major change to the rules. I sort of wish that they had widened the field by 2 yards along with that force out rule. This will serve to lower scoring, something that I would thing was not in the NFL's best interest. Isn't this the reason that they changed all of the PI rules a few years back?

I dont like that either. IF they are going to get rid of that rule, they should at least make it like college, where you only have to get one foot in.
