Musk alters range of some cars remotely during Hurricane

I think why they do that is to keep the life of the battery in check since they are so expensive to replace. Car batteries, if you over extend them over periods of time, their ability to recharge are diminished, even if they are brand new or relatively new and regardless of how hard the alternator is workin.

 

Probably like overclocking your computer... can burn out badly.
