Titans coach Mike Munchak said Monday he believes in quarterback Jake Locker and is happy with him, but added that the team will consider all options at the position for the future.

Locker is currently on injured reserve currently after suffering a Lisfranc injury on Nov. 10, one that required surgery. He’s tentatively expected to need five to six months to recover from the surgery.

“Just like anything … you get an evaluation of when (Locker) is actually going to be healthy, when’s he actually going to be practicing,” Munchak said. “(Then you say), `Okay, what options do you have in the meantime? Is there a better idea? Is there a better way to move forward? Is there someone available?’ There’s all those things.

“You’re always going to consider the what-ifs, even though you’re happy with what you have. But when you have someone who’s unfortunately not healthy right now, as a team you have to consider everything.”

Locker is under contract for next season at $2.091 million, but as for 2015, the Titans would have to exercise an option in his contract by May 3 of 2014. Exercising that option would mean paying Locker $13 million in 2015, so the team is very unlikely to go that direction.

“You have a long time to worry about that stuff,” Munchak said. “Nothing is going to happen in free agency until March. The draft is not until May. So there’s a long ways before you start building your team back.

“If you’re a good team and a thorough team, you’re going to consider all your options and make your decision. It’s not an indictment on a player. You do it with everybody.”

Locker had made noticeable strides this season, improving his completion percentage, his touchdown-interception ratio and his quarterback rating. The Titans were 3-1 before Locker’s first injury this season.

“He’s a guy that, you know how I feel about him,” Munchak said. “You know how I believe in him. You know how we felt when he was 3-1. He was on his way. So that did hurt a lot when he got hurt. I’m still hoping he can have a great career in this league by overcoming another injury.”

Because of a hip/knee injury and then the Lisfranc injury, Locker played in just seven games this year. He’s missed 14 of a possible 32 starts over the past two seasons.

“We have an issue at quarterback with our quarterback being hurt the last two years,” Munchak said. “We know that’s something that’s going to have to get better, with Jake and whatever ends up happening.”

Didn't read the whole article, but it kind of seems like Munch is throwing Jake under the bus as to why this season did not turn out successful. Last Min effort to save his job

No, it's more like he is trying to soften the blow to the "sane" folks who want him gone. He probably figures by saying this, we will warm up to him.

Nice try, Munch.. I can't believe he is even talking about next year already.

Good, he should act that way, even if he is on his way out.

You'd prefer he talk about vacation options?

I want a new coach too, but Munch still gets paid, so he better be thinking about QB's.

He can think about QB's when the season is over. Locker should be the last of his concern right now.
