was that just a poor throw? Did Davis just not complete his route? It was one of those boneheaded throws we’ve been seeing Marcus throw throughout the year, or was it?

He was targeting Walker. The design was to open up the area of the field where Walker was by having Davis run a deeper route, but Peters saw right through it and pulled off his coverage. It was a poor play design which resulted in too many defenders in the same area of the field.

It was a poor play design for sure (I think we were throwing to the short side of the field too which limits spacing even more) but Davis’ route was not very good on that play.

He broke to the inside on his fly route instead of hugging the sideline.

Davis did not do his job on that route...he has to make sure that he clears his man from that area. But in terms of play design/play calling why run it to the right side attacking their best CB. Run it left towards an old Revis.

Davis also screwed up on the fake bubble screen that we tried to hit Matthews in the end zone on....no way was he suppose to release so soon and take another defender down field.

I'm very disappointed in the fundamentals that Davis seems to be having problems with, but I'm also upset that we haven't been able to design a play that gets Davis one on one on a backside deep post pattern...I want to see him have the opportunity to go up and get a jump ball deep....Matthews had several of those deep jump balls he came down with last yr, but those throws seem to have disappeared from the play book.

Mularkey said in the PC that Walker was the target and that Davis was supposed to clear out the defenders.

Walker was clear of his defender. Peters just isn't an idiot and sniffed out the play by reading Mariota's eyes.

Those trying to blame Davis, stop it. Peters was covering him, not Walker. A receiver clears out their defender by running to an area of the field where the ball is not going. The play design was garbage and did just the opposite. That's what Gruden meant by "Poor route distribution"

Don’t throw that ball if the Corner squats.

Peters’ eyes never left the backfield, Flota predetermined he was going to Walker and Peters just had to sit and wait.

Oh you could definitely tell that Peters read the route and jumped it beating Walker to the punch. We don't have any CB's who can do that but wish we did.

Gruden kept saying that it was "poor route distribution".
