If your lawn is small, you may want to check out a rechargeable -- no mess with oil/gas, sparkplugs, etc. We had a Black & Decker for years. My only criticism was that when it was time to replace the battery, we had to take it to an authorized dealer to get it installed.

When that one died last year, we replaced it with a Neuton (which uses a drop-in battery that can be sent to the consumer). So far, so good.

I have a Bolens push mower i got from Lowes when i first bought my house, we didnt have the money for a Riding Mower then so for 2 summers i used the push mower to cut our 3/4 acre yard. ive hit stumps and rocks and every thing... and it still runs fine today. the wheels , pulling string etc.. has never gave me any trouble.

Go to your local lowes and check them out, they are affordable to.
