Exactly. You see defensive linemen and LB's shove blockers out of the way all the time.

Not sure who Breeze is, but if he is a QB, as long as he remains in the pocket Colston is protected. If his four steps takes him outside of the pocket Colston becomes a blocker up to the point the ball is thrown.

Sorry, I meant birthmarkface. Surely you have seen the NFL commercials whoring out the Saints for jersey sales after their SB. Breezy...

edit: Thanks for the explanation, though

Thanks Guido, that confirmed my thoughts!

So the Mariani 'foul' was in fact legal, but I think the trip on D-Will happened when Jake was in the pocket and therefore should have been illegal contact.

Does anyone have a link to the play? I'd like to see it. Were their feet tangled? That is almost always viewed as incidental contact even if the ball is in the air.

Thanks! Yes, the trip was definitely incidental contact.

    Pass Interference Rules

Actions that do not constitute pass interference include but are not limited to:

    (a) Incidental contact by a defender’s hands, arms, or body when both players are competing for the ball, or neither player is looking for the ball. If there is any question whether contact is incidental, the ruling shall be no interference.

    (b) Inadvertent tangling of feet when both players are playing the ball or neither player is playing the ball.

    (c) Contact that would normally be considered pass interference, but the pass is clearly uncatchable by the involved players.

    (d) Laying a hand on a receiver that does not restrict the receiver in an attempt to make a play on the ball.

    (e) Contact by a defender who has gained position on a receiver in an attempt to catch the ball.

I think the rule about QBs leaving the pocket and receivers becoming blockers should probably be adjusted to once they're past the line of scrimmage and can no longer pass.

Since the rules are what they are now, why don't defenders just pancake receivers as soon as the QB moves out of the pocket every time? E.g. Designed bootlegs and play-action roll outs.

The ball wasn't in the air, it was past 5 yards, Locker in the pocket at the time. Definite PI. That missed call wasn't the only the reason the Titans lost the game, but don't try to paint it that it wasn't a missed call. That just makes you come off as irrational.
