Red flag when a guy goes from good to average

based on older picks JR wants only guys on the up and up..

I agree. Let's just draft Vita Vea 330 lb NT from Washington. He's ranked 7 the best in the draft, but due to need, he should be there for us to draft.

Nobrainer if we want middle DL improvement.

Cant see us taking a NT at 25, we need for whoever we take at 25 to be a guy that doesnt come off the field much. NT's dont play a lot of snaps overall..

If he can rush the passer he could stay on the field more though. I’m not sure how well he does that

    What are you talking about...?

Ryan Tannehill would be a top 5 QB...back when?

There are of course changes to the game but mostly in philosophy. More teams back in the 80's wanted to run the ball as the basis of their offense for example. In the 70's, it was even more so with the QB mostly there to manage the game, try to convert 3rd down's and taking more deep shots. Bradshaw is a nice example of this.

Walsh's West Coast Offense changed things quite a bit and he's probably the 'father' of modern passing offenses as you basically have Andy Reid's lineage of offense and Shanahan's...but both come back to Walsh's WCO. Then you have the Mike Mularkey's who run older 'norm' style offense that dates back to the '70's...maybe before.

All good teams add to their concepts as they are good and want to add new things. While no one runs an actual Run and Shoot offense anymore, several concepts from the offense are run by every team in the league. So yes, things develop, but we haven't really seen a radically new offense that changed the NFL like Walsh's offense did. Most teams run similar concepts, route combinations, etc, but HOW they impliment them and call them week to week or in game is very different. There are offense's like Mularkey's that minimally change what they do week to week and just being more physical and not making mistakes is the winning formula while other offense's like the Patriots, truly change up their entire offense week to week to attack that opponent's defense in every way possible.

Rules have of course favored the passing attack, but they have been favorable since the '90's. But those changes haven't been subtle at all...especially if you used to watch football back in the day where a Julian Edelman trying to run a crossing pattern against the late '70's Steelers would have literally been knocked unconscious just from trying to go across the middle...whether the ball was thrown his way or not...with no penalty!

I was refuting the claim that the game hasn't really changed since the early 2000s. I just referred to the efficiency ratings of QBs back then, and they are much higher across the board for all but the the top of the class for current QBs. I was just referring to Tannehill''s QB rating and the fact that it would have been much closer to the top of the list in 2000 than it is now.
