How good is the PS3 as a Blu Ray player?

    I guess I'm really more interested in Blu Ray movies now, but Sony still has some awesome games I want to get my hands on. I assume the PS3 playing Blu Ray discs will be just fine, but I wondered if anyone could share their thoughts on it.

    Also, how many models do they have now? Is the base model the 80G?

    it's pretty good. i'm sure you could find a better one for the same price, but it wouldn't play games.

    i think there are two; an 80 and a 160.

    Never had an issue with the PS3 blu-ray player. I have another Blu-ray player and I prefer the PS3 (it has better loading times)

    fwiw,..... quite a few tech sites (for instance ,Cnet) use Ps3's as their reference BluRay source when testing new HDTV's

    it's been discussed for quite some time that the Ps3 was better than Sony's higher-end standalone players

    add to the fact that the Ps3 has built-in wireless networking and sees regular firmware upgrades and that makes it even better as a device

    Our Sony Rep. for professional video products told me a while back that the blu-ray player in the PS3 is no different that their top line stand alone deck. Except for one thing...since it is wireless, it can recieve firmware and software upgrades much, much easier.

    I've got a Vaio Laptop with a BD-RE drive and I have a PS3... the PS3 loads a little faster... when using the BD-Live feature I preffer my Laptop. thats really the only difference I can see.

    Now, what game and movie should I get first? Dark Knight may be the movie. Anyone played GT 5 Prologue?

    Exclusives, since I assume multiplat you'd know the good ones:

    Metal Gear 4
    Uncharted
    Ratchet and Clank: Tools of Destruction
    GT5 Prologue is meant to be excellent but probably worth waiting for GT5 (xmas next year apparently).
    WipeOut HD
    Siren: Blood Curse (is freaky scary).
