But why was 2018 a carbon copy of 2017

 

I mean, his completion %, TD/INT ratio, QB rating, and YPA went up with a lame throwing hand and after losing his 3 leading receivers from the prior year. Doesn't mean a great difference when we threw so little, but it's something.

I'm more upset about 2017. This year was brutal and nearly insurmountable in terms of injuries. But I would have loved to have seen this staff with Walker, Matthews, a healthy Davis who had his injury managed as the current staff would have done, a healthy OL, and a ridiculously weak schedule and division. 13/15 was a joke of a stat line for a QB under such favorable circumstances. It's why there were talks of canning Mularkey even while we were still in the playoff hunt.

 

Good points. I hope Mariota finally lives up to his potential, but my patience is waning fast. I remember when we got frustrated when Steve Tasker got hurt 2 years straight and waived him. Buffalo picked him up and the rest we all know. I somehow fear if we cut Mariota lose, he would break out for the next team and make us look like saps.

 

Derrick will be even better once we clean up the OL.
