    I feel like you should have to be a hall of famer to get your number officially retired...

    McNair's is unofficially retired, meaning we won't see anyone want to touch that number for a while...probably most of our lifetimes..

    Look at other teams that have near half their numbers retired. I do not want to be like that and it lose meaning.

    I question how much of this is driven because McNair was our first quarterback? Say if he had been a quarterback for the Packers/Steelers or some other very old successful franchise how would they feel? Probably not.

    Because he was an Oiler.

    Bud stopped (officially) retiring numbers, they just have the Ring of Fame and McNair is part of it.
    No one will wear #9 in Tennessee again.

    The Titans' policy for retiring numbers is just fine. Besides, as great as McNair was, he just wasn't quite the kind of player whose number you retire.
