I've been fortunate enough my kids are older than that so it seems I passed the super young accident stage( my youngest is 8), but the fear of crazy accidents never really leaves.

Sad for Heap. No one should have to experience that.

My kids are 16 & 18, been through those crazy years of them never leaving your sight. Not blaming anyone in this case, tragic accident, but where was the mom? If Heap was leaving in the truck, how does a 3 year old get in that position without the other parent watching?

It's a valid question but we'll likely never have those specific details. It only takes a second without attention. My first 2 I didn't really have many problems keeping my eye on them, they never really did anything, my 3rd, she got into everything and it seemed like she waited for that one moment where attention is diverted to get after whatever she was doing.
In no way do I blame the mother or heap for this accident. I'm sure that every detail roles by over and over again questioning themselves on how they could let it happen or what they could have done differently.
