Cornerback Tommie Campbell is expected to start on Saturday at Cincinnati, a week after the team started Alterraun Verner with the first team defense.

Titans Coach Mike Munchak and defensive coordinator Jerry Gray both said they thought Campbell was tentative in the preseason opener against the Redskins, when he came off the bench.

Campbell revealed on Tuesday he was dealing with an injury in the opener, and he didn’t feel like himself.

“My groin was bothering me last game,’’ he said. “It is behind me, but I am (ticked).

“I just need to go out there and be myself and just play. I am going to be OK.”

Ok, maybe that explains his soft coverage. Maybe...

Those excuses work for Jake Locker... so I guess Campbell gets to use them as well.

As much as I like him, I just don't see him as an elite DB in this league. I believe 2nd team will be his max.
