My point is the money from mariota jersey sales is tiny
i dont think anyone in their right mind would extend mary for more than a bortles deal, probably slightly above what bortles got ($$ wise not years-wise unless there is an option)
the money from EVERYTHING would be tiny if they were evaluating the way you are suggesting. sales numbers still matter... big picture
Youre the one talking about mariota merch being a factor
and it is, mariota sells the most merch, which brings home the most $$$, even if they have to split it
I don't think lighting a fire is the problem...he's very motivated in getting better, injuries are a big issue.
He definitely needs to improve in a few areas but the team in general does. Mariota isn't giving up big plays on defense. Lewis was a disappointment as well, although why we threw to him behind the LOS on 3 and 20 is beyond me.
Thats too small a revenue stream to allow it to influence decisions.
Now if you want to say Mariota sells the most tickets, Id say thats more relevant than #8 jerseys and bobble heads.
Fanbases are fickle. If MM8 lights it up in the meaningless preseason games, the stadium will be packed for the first home game.
Will they even risk him playing PS?
That's a valid question. Without knowing how long it takes to for him to recover, I can't give a serious answer.
That said, regardless, I don't see him getting an extension during the off-season unless it's incentive-laden and extremely team-friendly.
