    1993: Houston Oilers 10–7 San Francisco 49ers

"Buddy's philosophy is if the quarterback is flat on his back, he can't throw the ball," Houston defensive back Terry Hoage said of the club's first-year defensive coordinator.

Added Oiler Coach Jack Pardee: "Buddy has done a great job. It took awhile to get going. The key thing is not to give up too many touchdowns, get the turnovers and get used to that pressure defense."

Houston had more to gain by winning Saturday's matchup between division winners. The Oilers, mindful they have been eliminated from the postseason on the road five of the last six seasons, are competing with the Kansas City Chiefs (10-4) and the Buffalo Bills (10-4) for home-field advantage throughout the AFC playoffs.

2000: Tennessee Titans 31–0 Dallas Cowboys

The Tennessee Titans had a lot to lose tonight, and they played like they were afraid of blowing it. Their defense wouldn't let them.

The Titans turned four third-quarter turnovers into 24 points to beat the Dallas Cowboys 31-0 and secure the home-field advantage throughout the AFC playoffs.

Tennessee, which finished the regular season with the NFL's best record at 13-3, had to win or switch positions with the Baltimore Ravens as the No. 4 seed. The franchise won the AFC Central title for the first time since 1993 and third overall.

2004: Denver Broncos 37–16 Tennessee Titans

Jake Plummer broke out of his slump with a nearly perfect start and kept the Denver Broncos in the playoff race.

Plummer threw for 303 yards and two touchdowns, and Reuben Droughns scored three TDs as the Broncos beat the Tennessee Titans 37-16 Saturday night to stay in at least a tie for the AFC's final wild-card slot going into the final week of the season.

2009: San Diego Chargers 42–17 Tennessee Titans

The San Diego Chargers have their first-round bye, and Philip Rivers is still perfect in December.

Tennessee's bid for NFL history? The Titans lost that right along with their postseason dream, looking like a throwback to the team that started the season 0-6.

Rivers threw two touchdowns passes, LaDainian Tomlinson ran for two scores and the Chargers beat the Titans 42-17 on Friday night to grab the AFC's No. 2 seed and that first-round bye in the playoffs.
