It should really be called "Cobra Kai -- Johnny's Revenge"

It is more than 30 years after the events of the original Karate Kid movie. Daniel is a successful and wealthy car dealer while Johnny is a "Down and out" general labourer with a drinking problem. Johnny then restarts Cobra Kai and ends up teaching Karate to all the kids being bullied at the local high school. Meanwhile, butthurt Daniel tries to stop Johnny.

The show also tells Johnny's side of the story and casts him in a more human light.

Those of you who are contrarian should love the show. Same with those who love a good underdog story. Anyone who saw the first Karate Kid movie should love the show too. There are even some funny references to Karate Kid 3.

And for those that have not seen the original Karate Kid movie, I am sorry to hear you grew up under a rock.

They really nailed it. Like it's legitimately funny without being over the top stupid. KK was one of my favorites growing up so it was cool to see one of these nostalgic revisits actually be top notch.

Yes, and it was nicely done.

It took me 3 episodes to really get into it, but after that it was really good. Even the first 3 episodes were good but its always takes me 2 full episodes to really buy in to the story of a spin-off. I had some preconceived thoughts going in so it just took a couple shows to get over that.

And there would have been a lot of temptation to make it over-the-top-stupid.

I read up more on Willaim Zabka and he apparently has a very diverse background in film. He was even nominated for an academy award for a screen play.

They certainly took the time to do it right. And some of the jokes are classic:

    "Is that a student here?"
Johnny -- "No, that's just an illegal I picked up to do some work for me"

With the Cobra Kai poster at the HS: Johnny -- "The website is www, period, Cobra Kai, period, c-o-m, all lower case"

    "Drowning is for pussies."

And the things Johnny says to those loser kids hahahaha.

The ending though, I am not too sure about.

I was hoping to see Miguel get the girl in the end

Oh yeah, they really make fun of snowflake culture and modern over-parenting.

Instead of trying to shield the loser kids from bullying Johnny teaches them to stick up for themselves. It is a good lesson for a modern society which has probably swung too far in one direction.
