I disagree with you guys, Smith has been absolutely dreadful this year in run blocking and pass protection. I remember in one game a few weeks back (maybe vs. Texans), Jonnu pulled from left to right as the lead blocker for Murray on a sweep to the right. There was one guy coming he just had to chip to allow Murray to make it to the outside, instead he lunged at the guy and flew right past him, allowing the defender to run untouched into the backfield and blow up Murray for a 5 yard loss. It was unbelievable. He's been a detriment to this team and especially our run game all season.

Mularky and Jrob should have addressed this month's ago, but hopefully we see Stocker the rest of the season and give Smith time to develop.

 

So he had a bad play, and that makes him dreadful? He's had plenty of instances of good blocking. A scheme which requires 8 people in the box to be blocked in order for the run to be successful is the biggest detriment. Odds are, someone will always get through.

 

Its not one bad play. He has a 38.1 run blocking grade on PFF, one of the worst in the league. Also his snap count has gone down each of the last 5 weeks, so clearly the coaches don't trust him either. Haven't you noticed Supernaw suddenly showing up lately?

 

Yeah. Luke Stocker sure did make a big impact last week in SF.

Glad that blocking tight end made such a big difference.

 

I honestly think that Reed plays to aggressively and that's why he is buried on the depth chart. We play a bend don't break defense that tries to keep everything in front of us. Reed was known to anticipate throws and jump routes in college the exact opposite of what the Titans tries to do.
