    Um...

So IF CJ goes down, Ringer will be our fulltime back til CJ is back. Even if Blount was on the roster, he still wouldn't get much playing time since he's a bad pass blocker and doesn't play special teams. So how much playing time would he really get...MAYBE 5-10 carries a game tops? Is 5-10 carries a game by Blount really gonna be SO different from 5-10 carries from a Gado or whomever? Blount is just as unproven during the regular season as anyone who is available. The only real difference is IF he can develop down the road. But last I checked, CJ is pretty good!

So as you said, this COULD backfire IF CJ goes down and IF Blounts develops AND somehow gets enough playing time being the 2nd string to Ringer to make a difference. That's a LOT of IF's and MAYBE's. Meanwhile, we will be getting a guy who set a franchise record 30 special teams tackles last year and we NEED that kind of help NOW!

I like Blount and was happy we got him as an UFA, but now I wish him the best!

We would only have 2 RB's active for game day if Blount were here, so we'd have the same guys available as we do now. IF CJ got hurt, the Ringer would finish the game either way and then they would have brought Blount up or in this case, sign a guy who's about as good for this season.

With or without Blount, we are just as thin. And 2 is not paper thin and I expect we will add someone (who probably can pass protect and or play special teams) soon.

Who? So you're telling me that you would rather have these scrubs over Blount?

I have a gut feeling that Blount is going to be a really good RB in this league. There was such a low risk, high reward in signing Blount, and that's what has pissed me off.

Seriously, for all the people who don't care that we cut Blount. Explain to me exactly why you didn't want to see him in a Titan uniform, other than he was a head case. Give me a head case that could help us win games anyday of the week. This is football and not Wall Street.

I'm disappointed he didn't clear waivers- but I think we all knew he wouldn't. Blount has more upside than any cheap vet than we will pick up.

I guess we have Ahmard to pound it in at the goal line but I was counting on Blount developing into our bruiser back. I thought he showed a high probability of that happening during camp and pre-season. I feel we frittered away our good fortune of picking him up as an UFA.

The FO deserves the criticism for thinning our depth and upside at RB- especially if injuries occur.

Here's the thing. Yea we could bring in Gado and while that's nice it's not what could have been. Here's why people like Blount.

Great in college, very powerful and strong runner. Looked a lot to me like Brandon Jacobs. And Oregon has produced some good backs. Now he's got a short temper and really F'd up by punching the guy but I read plenty of reports saying if he hadn't thrown that punch, he's a 2nd round pick. So we get a guy with 2nd round pick talent undrafted. I for one thought we got a guy who could be even better than White and maybe in 1 or 2 years (maybe less) we could get an even better version of the former Smash and Dash. Also, I want another starter, I don't want CJ to get his 2500 or even 2000 yards because if he does it just means our offense is going to be so one dimensional.

My hope was we get the perfect combination of speed/power with these guys. And no Blount wasn't GREAT in the pre season but he wasn't bad either. And besides it's pre season. So rather than pursue this new version of smash and dash we decide to continue to do what we did last year and just run run run with the same guy. Remember when we ran Eddie George 24/7? Cut his career short.

Now as of right now we have 2 guys on the roster. I'm sure we'll pick up some journeyman like Gado but so what? Here we got this 2nd round talent for nothing and we just send him off for some special teams guy. Yea we need special teams players but we've had 3 years to upgrade the special teams, NOW when we got this player that's got a lot of people excited with a lot of upside (yea he was raw but he's got the talent) we just get rid of him because NOW a week before the season we decide to fix the special teams when we've had 3 years to do so.

Anyway, that's why I'm pretty dissopointed with this whole thing. I can't speak for everyone but I'm guessing that's the general consensus with the Blount crowd.

Not that it matters, because like EddyC said, most of those guys have been signed. But Julius Jones would have given Ringer a run for the #2 job. Michael Robinson would have been a good short yardage/special teams guy and the other two were in the same boat as Blount, developmental prospects.

There's a difference in not caring if he were cut and not wanting him on the team. I just don't think it's a monumental loss worth walking off the edge of a cliff.

He would have never been active because he can't block or cover kicks. There's no sense in keeping a guy on the 53-man roster who's a healthy scratch every week. We did that with Chris Henry for two years and it was a total waste(That's why there's a practice squad)

It goes both ways. We don't know if these guys will improve the special teams. Besides, we got two guys it's not like we couldn't have gotten Shaw and not Bailey.

We'll get to see how good Blount can be soon enough.

The Bucs dumped WR Reggie Brown to add Blount to their 53 man roster.
