Be ready for the Titans to work the waiver wire

I think you give Jesse too much credit...

 

The waiver wire only applies to players you put on your final roster and has nothing to do with the PS. Cut players can go to any PS they want and some players will opt for another team than the one they started on if they think the opportunity is better.

Just because we have an extra roster spot for Thornton doesn't mean they will fill it with another position. IMO they will keep an extra LB either from the current roster or one that was cut on another team. First they need the LB to fill all their LB spots on the roster and secondly just because DT is PUPed doesn't mean he will ever be back if he can't rehab and be ready. I think they will just go on with the same mentality as if he were cut and then make the decision in 6 weeks if they want to bring him back. They certainly can't count on him and with McRath out for 4 weeks (they get an additional roster spot for him as well for 4 weeks) they really have to look at getting a LB or two in here who can play on STs and backup the starters. I woudn't be surprised if they brought in a seasoned vet who is let go.

 

Also, even if Blunt clears waivers and then gets signed to the Titans PS any team can claim him as long as they place him on their 53 man roster for at least 3 weeks. That is how the Colts grabbed Mookie which was a great move for them. Thus it is a real good idea for the GM to account for all the players on other teams PSs because if you have an injury or need depth quickly you can get a guy that way.

 

Huh? Anyone with less than four years has to clear waivers, players aren't free to roam the countryside looking for another practice squad. If someone claims them, they're theirs.

Huh? If someone "claims them" that means they claimed them to their 53 man roster. You don't claim guys for the PS. After the players clear waivers they are FAs and can sign with any team's PS they want. Yes, they can roam the country side and find any PS they want. Also, technically PS players are still FAs from the standpoint ANY team can claim them and put them on their 53 man roster at any time. The only restriction is when they place them on the 53 man roster they have to keep them for 3 weeks.

I dont understand keeping players just for special teams. Reading all this you would think our special teams are great.....and they are not. Donnie Nickey cant play safety period.....needs to go. Hope we keep johnson he has some upside. I hope we keep blount, he has upside and could be a real option in short yardage situations. Mariani had better make the team over anyone else including Britt. This kid can play the game catch and return. Wes Welker type. I hope we only keep 3 tight ends. And I think Rusty Smith has a lot of upside and do not think he makes it to the practice squad. Question to me is does Mouton make the team or does Tye Hill? Verner is going to be a great nfl corner!

Bad news for Vasher, who has now been cut by both the Bears and the Chargers this offseason. He couldn't beat out Donald Strickland for the nickel job and it's obvious his skills are on major decline.
