In light of the cousins and rg3 threads, I put together a list of QBs that are active in the league that Lafluer has coached that could possibly be targets as a backup or at least camp bodies that know the offense. This list does not include Ryan, Goff, or Cousins bc that would not be helpful.

Matt Schaub (falcons, also coached him in houston)
Rex grossman (free agent, redskins 2013, Lafluer loves rex)
RG3 (free agent, browns 2016, injuries...)
    Colt McCoy (redskins)
Everett Golson (CFL, coached him at ND)
Deshone Kizer (browns, coached him at ND)
Sean Renfree (free agent, falcons 2015)
Matt simms (free agent, falcons practice squad)
    Brandon Allen (rams)
    Sean Mannion (rams)
Aaron Murray (free agent, rams practice squad)

The guy that I like in that mix and would be a nice backup on the cheap is Sean Mannion. Young, good arm and I think could put up similar stats and season that Case Keenum put up for the Vikings if called on.

That and he and Marcus are old friends er adversaries I mean. They’ve had some intense matchups in the Civil War. There is a respect there though...I think.

    Dude.

Rex Grossman is 37 and hasn't been on a roster since 2012.

That said, I'd still take him over Everett Golson...

Aaron Murray would be the cheapest option. But Titans history says we bring up Tyler Ferguson to be backup QB & Spend a 6th round pick on the 3rd string

I'd like to see us bring in a guy with a skillset close to marcus'. Not many options out there but, rg3, mccoy or a rookie. We don't need a vet/coach that plays anymore, we need a guy that can come in and win if marcus goes down.

A backup QB is critical. They need someone to step in and win if Marcus goes down.

But...Mannion could be our Cousins to Mariota who is our RG3 without the severe injuries.

Personally, injuries aside I like Marcus better and disagree with the Rope Da Dope. I feel he was the superior college player and soon to be pro.

The problem is, "a guy that can step in and win" is hard to find because guys that can consistently do that have a job already. They're called Starters.

There are exceptions, but most of the guys mentioned so far I thought were out of the league years ago or I haven't heard of.

Maybe a guy that has a few years of experience as a back up would be worth picking up over a late round rookie...but for the most part, if any team's starting QB goes down, it's bad news.

Is it really? Go down the entire NFL and list some of good back up QBs... you wont find many on that list...
