Yes, but he continued the way he had always played, until he realized he didn't have to.

He was also a backup, so when he came in it was either irrelevant or he felt he had to do what he could.

    He wised up.

“Local team” for me was Bills, Browns, or Steelers. I chose wisely, Moon and the Oilers.

Oh wait, 30+ years of misery. I only partially chose right.

I suppose he learned a thing or two under the tutelage of that SF QB, not Montana, not Deberg.........Steve Bono, that’s him.

Remember when Deberg played with a pin in his finger?

That was the sickest injury I think I ever saw and still play.

I didn’t see the infamous Ronnie Lott injury though.

For those that don’t know, Deberg played a playoff game with a pin down his index finger on his throwing hand.
Couldn’t bend his finger at all because of the pin. I think it was against Buffalo in 91-ish?

He also put together one of the best passing seasons in 1990 that existed up to that point.

    3444, 23 TD and 4 INT.
Those numbers didn’t happen in that era.
To be a league leader (maybe #5 in yards, and TD) with that kind of TD:INT ratio was pretty much unheard of.

Plus he played until he was about 200. Only Moon, Krieg and Blanda are up there with him (until recent history).
