Yea, I can't wait for Gage, Fowler and Scott to play like pro-bowl players.

It's amazing how in one offseason, before even one game has been played in the season, you've already doomed our new GM.

And all because we didnt sign Clements or Stallworth to some ridiculous long-term overpaid deal.

Personally, I hope we don't get Alex Brown. He's done well in the NFL so far, but he's got all-stars around him. And truthfully, I'm just sick of Gators on the team.

Also, for any vols fans that remember the game he sacked Tee Martin 5 times, here's an interesting tidbit about that game. I remember in a post-game interview Brown said he watched the Tennessee's Center (can't remember name right now) opposite snapping hand twitch everytime right before he snapped the ball. It's how Brown seemingly new the snap count on every play. Well done by Brown, I found it interesting.

And even though I'm not a Brown fan, I do see he would be an upgrade to our current DE situation.

I wouldnt mind going after Adams and Brown. It would be a marginal upgrade but an upgrade non the least

According to Gut we shouldn't waste our time even if the guy is an upgrade unless he is pro-bowl caliber. Instead we should just use 1st day picks for the next decade trying to find a decent player and hope we get lucky.

The thing is we can use our 2nd round pick IMO to get a guy who is an instant upgrade while continuing to draft guys who have upside and when we do hit it big on a guy (Like the Bears did with Mark Anderson in the 4th round) we can always make the decision then if we want to trade or cut a player. IMO Brown is comparable to KVB and is a significant upgrade to Odom or LaBoy. I wouldn't offer him a super huge contract, which is more of a deal breaker than the draft pick IMO but I'd certainly not sit pat hoping Freeney becomes available before I make a move. We could be waiting for years to find a draft pick that is as good as a guy like Freeney.

I don't see Brown as a huge upgrade over the Laboy/Odom combo, to be honest. Let's play the stats game. Brown is pretty consistent at getting around 6 sacks a season and around 40 tackles:

That's not bad, but it's not great. However, the way Brown talks, he wants a lot of money. He sees the big contracts being thrown around this year, and he wants in on it. So we have to pay him considerably more than Odom and/or Laboy. The year Laboy stayed somewhat healthy, he got the 6 sacks also (fewer tackles though...but he didn't play every down). Odom actually has more upside than Brown, IF he can stay healthy. Now, laboy and Odom both have health concerns, which Brown largely doesn't. But if healthy, they are pretty close to the same, and Laboy and Odom don't cost as much.

I'm not seeing the enormous upside to Brown here. He's a very average DE looking for a big payday.

The big upgrade for Brown is durability. Having a guy we can depend on. A guy like Jacob Ford could end up being a sack specialist if he is better at just rushing the QB but we need a guy who is dependable.

I do agree that Brown isn't worthy of a huge payday but if his contract demands are reasonable he is worth spending a 3rd or even a 2nd rounder on.
Heck, if we had used our 2nd round pick on a DE like Crowder and he was able to stay healthy all year, be decent against the run and record 7 sacks we would be delighted.
