    The owners could terminate the CBA, which would leave the league without a contract with the players in about 2 years.

    There is an article on cnnsi that explains all the issues by Peter King. Very insightful. According to King no chance of strike for two years and probably not until 2011 as I recall. 2010 the collective agreement is ended. After 2010 the owners hold most of the leverage.

    I think they would make it official after this season, and the CBA would last 2 more seasons (the salary cap just 1 more)
