There are quite a few 'gurus' who think Cleveland will take Wentz over Goff...mainly because of his arm. Goff's arm is considered avg-above avg but that is more problematic when you play in Cleveland.

The problem is, most don't see Wentz as a top 5 pick...especially given his level of competition and he didn't exactly light it up at the Senior Bowl. So the problem becomes...Cleveland would like to trade down and get him but they know the Cowboys could take him at 4 since they will develop him behind Romo.

And there are other QB needy teams! And let's not forget the Chargers may also want to grab their future QB while picking so high. Does a SD or Dallas jump over Browns to grab Wentz...and then where does that leave the Browns?

For these reasons, a lot of people think the Browns just might reach for Wentz even at 2. And the fact that he seems like a standup guy is all the more reason they want to talk themselves into it after the Manziel mess and pr nightmare.

Glasgow is a battler and high effort type but not hugley athletic or talented. He stands out because he never gives up. But his athleticism challenge showed up in back to back reps against Rankins. G almost didn't tough him as on the first rep, he blew past him on the outside. Came back and blew past him on the inside. Not sure Glasgow even got more than a step out of his stance. quick players will give him fits.

Oakman is intriguing but also they pointed out his problem. He's NOT a hold you up at the point of attack because he has skinny skinny legs and ankles. He's super tall with really long arms but he hasn't developed an array of pass rush moves and basically beats people with length and some speed. But until he develops his lower body, he doesn't have the explosion to be drafted as a pass rusher and he's not as hard a worker nor has the technique of a a Nassib. he will be a backup early on while someone figure out how to develop him and use his athletic size/speed/length.

Drake's problems were who he was running behind (the backs ahead of him) and injuries. Gruesome leg injury, then broke his arm. Has explosion and speed. Bit more of a one cutter than a true shake and bake guy. Mismatch in the passing game for most LB's and a homerun threat with his speed. Agreed, he's needs pass pro work.

Deion Jones reminds me of a lot of LSU guys...very fast, punishing hitters, but not really instinctive. And right now he's a hybrid size guy as you mentioned. I think Cash is a better Deone Buchanon comparison but a good point. He can fill a hybrid LB/S role though I don't know how well he can cover.

Matakavich is that great instinct and passion with limited athleticism. He was exposed a bit when having to chase all the way to the sideline. Plenty of RB's and TE's in the NFL who are faster so he has some liability there, but he's a good tackler and highly instinctive. He's literally the opposite of Zach Brown!

Rankins 1v1 was the best defensive player in drills. He is a great combo of power, quickness, hands and balance. I haven't watched a lot of his tape, but so far from what I've seen, he doesn't (or hasn't yet) played to that in games. Gotta watch more tape of him. Based on SB practices, he looks like a top 10-15 player. But there will be quality DL who fall to the 3rd...there are SO many of them!!!

Miller looked a lot better in 1v1 drills than is 7-7 or game stuff ive watched so far. Have to watch more tape of him. Very quick feat and doesn't panic and he's a good sized cb.

I don't think he's a top of the 2nd player. How many times have I heard a guy say they are aiming to run a 4.29 or better and they run a 4.42? He doesn't look 4.2 fast on tape and I'll be midly surprised if he's anywhere close to a 4.35. I'd guess he's a 4.40-4.45 kind of guy who's quick and more sudden than he is outright fast.

On the other hand, if he runs say a 4.35 and does really well with the other drills at the combine, I could see a wr needy team take a chance on him. It is not a very good WR class so a guy like him, who can get open and has good hands, isn't a smurf and can help in the ST game, might be worth a shot. given this is his first year playing WR and Tyler Lockett's success as a kick returner alone...and you have good arguments for someone taking him higher than he should go (which is 3rd or 4th round at the moment IMO).

    I like him!

Not a fan of this. I think Oakman isn't even a 2nd round player. On the one hand, I'd be more surprised if Oakman went in the 2nd as opposed to him falling to the 5th. On the other hand, not a lot of great pass rushers from end or 3-4OLB position so he'll be overdrafted for sure just because of that and his size.

Better players to take at 3rd round.

Oakman is 6'7 1/2 and 269lbs. He SHOULD be 280-290 except his legs are skinnier than mine!

What do you think is the deepest position in the draft, and what's the weakest? Considering we have needs everywhere, it would stand to reason that we should take spots that have the smallest pool of talent early, and fill in later at other positions that are deeper.

Like if the pass rush specialists are extremely weak, but guys like Spence, Miles Jack, and Rankins are top flight guys, should we look at taking someone like that in the first round? And then if say RB is very deep, look to later rounds for that.

I've found that's a very difficult, but better way to look at drafting than just best player available. Because this one guy could be top flight, but there might be 10 other guys who are very good at his position in this draft as well. But there might only be 1 very good corner, and everyone else really sucks.

Do you take the top flight guy and a questionable guy later, or two very good guys?

When you pick in the top 5, you get the best player you can (especially if he fills a need). But keeping depth is very important too. unfortunately, most teams and fans make the same mistake. They think hey, there are only4 good EDGE passrushers so we need to get one in round 1 and we'll get a RT in round 2. So you reach for the passrusher who was a 2nd round pick and then if there is a run on RT's, you may take the next best guy, again, due to scarcity. But what are you left with? A 2nd rnd pick you took in the first and a 3rd rnd pick you took in the second. Why do you think teams push QB's up so much!!! Position scarcity is for tie breakers unless you can accurately predict depth in later rounds. Scarcity is not for reaching for players. In the above example, you are better off taking the highest rated player in each round and match value of each to need. Unfortunately, Webster didn't understand the draft very well nor how to maximize the value on his team. Fortunately, he's gone and Robinson looks like he wants to revamp how we do things and evaluate players.

Also keep in mind, there are usually only 15-25 players with actual First round grades. Currently I have 24 players with First round grades but this will change with combine and individual workouts. I usually drop more players then I elevate.

As for this draft, it is very top light at positions that are usually pretty stacked like WR, OT, OLB, and CB. The most stacked position is DL (since we play a 3-4, all DT's and DE's are considered DL unless they are too small to play DE for us in which case I move them to EDGE). I currently have 17 players with a first or second round grade.....surprising considering there will only be 63 selections in those rounds. Interior OL is weak with no first round players and only 3 second round players. RB is weak at the top with only 1 first round player...same with WR and TE. S is weak with no first round players (unless you see Ramsey as only a S).

We should focus less on scarcity and more on maximizing value. When you pick near the top of every round, you can get a lot of falling talent. As I mentioned, there is a surplus of really good DL in this draft. So much so that some first rounders will likely make it to round 2 and second rounders will likely get to round 3...at least near the top. Not only will we have quality players to choose from, but we will get a lot of trade interest as teams reshuffle their boards and see value available for the grabbing. Webster was bad at this. Hope Robinson knows better!!!

One other problem with positional scarcity is also from draft to draft. We took a 3rd round DL last draft when we had bigger needs and higher rated players IMO. If the GM and scouting staff had followed closely enough, they would have had a good idea this draft would be pretty stocked in DL so getting another OL last year instead of Blackson would have been a smarter move considering we will have a lot of choice DL to aquire. Unfortunately, it's one of the strongest positions on our team except for NT. Vernon butler anyone? Again, I hope Robinson is a lot smarter and knows better than Webster!!!
