Simple my good Alex. CJ would break off that one long run. In 2009, he was able to do that AND still gain consistent yardage on other runs. In 2010, he would be ineffective until that one long run.

Take the first game of the season. He had 142 yards on 27 carries. One of those carries was for 76 yards. Take that one run away and he averages 2.5 yards....his average before taking that run away is 5.3 yards. Which means the yard per carry is very misleading for CJ due to him getting that one long run.
No I'm not saying CJ isn't good, but you can't ride that type of production if you are going for the run-first/ play-action type of offense, which is what we have been since arriving in Nashville.

No, we had a passing game, but Fisher has always been too loyal to the run. Even back in the McNair days we would run run run, even when not effective instead of trying to mix in a healthy dose of passing. Difference though was that Eddie would punish defenses and we had a top notch defense to bail out a way too conservative offensive scheme that can sometimes hurt your quarterback because he has to continuously convert 3 and longs.

So Vince was right when he said, "I can't play for YOU..."

Maybe there's a reason the other offensive weapons supported Vince. He was right.

Even with CJ getting stuffed Vince was near the top of the league in converting on 3rd down.

I definitely see what you are saying and I agree CJ is that type of runner.

But I think to say he is consistently stuffed is a misleading exaggeration. Clearly he's not consistently stuffed if he can break off those big runs.

How that effects a QB is worth speculation.

With VY gone, maybe the Titans won't be held back and they'll finally reach the super bowl!

    Yaaaay!

Locker looks as if he likes country music. He'll take us to the promised land.

    Lol dumb***es

[Serious mode] I hope CJ somehow magics his way back to 2000 yrds. That would be a silver lining it what will be a cloud of a season.

Sure you can be consistently stuffed yet break off a long run.

    4,0,1,1,-3,0,8,4,6,10,0,5,76,3,-8,3,3,4,8,2,0,3,1,5,2,0 Runs versus Raiders

    2,7,-1,7,3,5,1,6,0,3,2,2,4,2,3,1,3,0,-1 Runs versus Broncos

    -2,4,6,-2,1,3,12,3,6,6,2,1,1,1,6,8,-2,0,0,1,2,0,3,8,6,-3,-1,1,42,3,1,8 Runs versus Giants

It's simple how it affects QBs, especially in this system. We both know how Fisher likes to do the run, run, pass. Take the first drive of the Giants game for the Titans offense. We run on first down for....-2 yards. We run again for four yards. Great, except we have to make up for the -2. Now it's a 3rd and 8.

    http://www.nfl.com/news/story/09000...n-success-is-the-key-to-thirddown-conversions

As you can see, you are looking at a low success rate of 32% just to move the chains. Why is it so low? Well it's because its an OBVIOUS passing down. That didn't help Vince and it's not going to help Locker.

I'm not blaming CJ for this production. You shouldn't just be running him up the middle. Mix in some stretches, delays, sweeps, counters. Also you especially don't run him straight towards the obvious weak link, the center, the most in every game. Amano was terrible in run protection and almost as bad in pass protection, especially if it was play action-bootlegs.
