I've watched Matty Ice since he became the starter in Seattle, and although he's definitely in decline now, I think he might have a half decent season or so left in his tank. If any of you watched the Seahawks' playoff game against the Saints last year, it gives an idea of what MH still can bring. He's a savvy veteran who knows his craft.

And I don't know anything about Collins, but I'll tell you something that MH definitely can do: read defenses and work very efficiently through his progressions. Aside from his natural competitiveness, it's always been the strongest part of his game. He's never been an athletically gifted QB; but he has excelled at those parts of the game, regularly finding second or third options, even fourth options based on very quick reads. He would not be a bad guy to mentor Locker because he's made his mark in the NFL through exactly the skills that Locker most needs to develop IMO.

And then there are two other things to consider about him. First, he sat behind and was mentored by Brett Farve for years before Paul Holmgrem, who left Green Bay to coach Seattle, traded to bring MH along with him to be the Seahawks starter. So MH has a very positive feeling about mentoring which he's publicly stated is something that he'd like to 'pay forward' if it ever comes up for him. And second, he's also publicly stated that he wants to move into the front office of some organization when his playing days are over. He's already thinking about the next step for himself, and does not seem to be clinging to some idea that he has to keep starting at QB even past his prime in order to keep his train rolling.

Frankly I want the Seahawks to keep MH at least for 1-2 more years, because of his savvy and the fact that he still has enough physical skill to take advantage of that savvy IMO. And he'll be an excellent mentor for whoever the Seahawks decide to go with next, whether Charlie Whitehurst or someone that they draft next year. You guys would know better than I how Kerry Collins might compare to the picture of MH that I'm presenting. But I thought it might be fuel for thought to paint MH's picture as I see him right now in his career.

Seems that cruds has pulled a jesse on us.

    Where is the word "must"?

Real smart for so many of you to respond as if he said something he never said.

Of course he wants to start.

I'm with ya. At least he would have upside. If he got off to a decent start we at least have some depth at QB. We need at least 2 QB's who can step in and play right away. Even if Kerry came back to play, this would be his last year so he'd add nothing to the team long term.

Sorry Kerry. I appreciate what you've done here but I think its time to part ways.

He didn't exactly say he would accept a back-up role either. Whether he's being directly quoted or not the thread title captures the sentiment well. “If I came back, I’d come back to be a starter". That's essentially saying his return hinges on starting. Use or non-use of the term "must" is irrelevant. It's implied, (by Collins) or otherwise understood. It's just semantics.

Nice to know how KFC feels. BUT who gives a sh!+?

I'd much rather have Jake start from the get-go. What's the point bringing KFC back only to turn around and make Jake start halfway through the season. I feel that he'll learn more by being thrown in the fire. Just let him work his way through the tough stuff.
