Right now, we have the 700 minute family plan with unlimited texting. We're looking to upgrade to smartphones but it appears they tag $29.99 onto the bill for each phone. That's quite a chunk. Anyone know the scoop here? Also, does Verizon have any wi-fi phones which don't require a data plan?
All Verizon smartphones require a dataplan. I've got a Droid X, the wife has LG Ally, the wifi is ok, but has trouble using an N router, works fine on G though. Uses a lot of battery.
I was afraid of that. I see some data plans which are less expensive for 25 MB, etc. If you are accessing the internet by a wi-fi connection, does it count against you data plan?
Not that I am aware of since you wouldn't be accessing the VZW network. I just tapped into the wifi here at work. The 3G icon disappears when it is on WIFI.
Without disabling the radio for the phone, no. I was able to put it in Airplane Mode and use wifi....
of course they're going to tell you that. they don't want you bypassing their network and using a wi-fi connection for skype
