I’m really happy the Titans were able to bring back Jayon Brown this year and I completely understand not exercising the 5th year option on Evans too.

Drafting Monty Rice seemed odd at the time, but the guy was a Butkus Award finalist and considered one of the top 5 LB’s in the nation. He’s a really good football player.

David Long Jr. should push for more playing time after making some big time plays late last year, though to be fair he’s far less consistent than Evans or Brown.

I’m very excited to see these four guys in the preseason. THANK GOD WE GET A PRESEASON THIS YEAR! I honestly could see any combination of the group starting in week 1.

    This is interesting:

The lowest percentage of missed tackles basically. They were #2 and #3 in the league as the surest tacklers.

That stat is pretty surprising to me. I didnt think Brown or Evans had good 2020 campaigns.

They didn't miss tackles. The problem with Evans, he was usually not in the right spot to make a tackle. When he was, he didn't miss. So it's rather misleading

The entire defense was out of position the whole year, it isn’t an individual players fault. It was the scheme they were forced into with injuries and bad signings. Evans is a good player.

Drafting Monty Rice was a brilliant move considering the possibility of both Evans and Brown being gone. Rice looks capable of playing either spot if needed.
Plus, guys get hurt as we saw last year with Brown. So drafting a quality player that has some versatility makes a bunch of sense. At worst Rice is a great STs guy we can use in some packages his first year. If Evans plays poorly he could even take over for him early.

Evans is a good player against the run but needs to get better against the pass. With Brown back and the drafting of Rice he might start to be an early down LB. Of the two, Evans and Brown it seems Brown is by far the more important guy to have and the hardest to replace. IMO they drafted Evans replacement and want to keep Brown (Probably cost them over $10 mil a year).

    Jayon will replace Evans.

Long and Rice will duke it out for #2 - I'm predicting Long though.

Evans is the middle LB essentially (and we do play a bunch of four man fronts) so I have no idea why Jayon would technically replace him. Evans is the run stopper and Jayon is the pass defender. They don't even play the same position.

That is new to me to label LBs 1, 2 and such. My guess is Long and Rice could play either spot but Long did replace Jayon when he got hurt and Rice played the same position as Evans in college. Rice is also listed as Evan's backup and Long Jayon's backup on the depth chart. All four of those LBs are in the 230 pound range but Brown is the best in space and Evans is the best coming downhill against the run.
