Long Term Deal for Henry?

Extend Henry and Tannehill, **** it.

Cap goes up every year, we'll be fine.

 

Kinda funny that Efexwhatever guy went through every one of my posts give me a BS rating because he was in love with Mariota, but the same guy who wanted to extend Mariota for life doesnt want to give Henry anything.

Not sure his motive, but to me RB and QB are just so different in value. Hard not to sign Henry at this point, but there will be a cost for keeping him at some point and I hope we don’t regret it.

 

And all salaries go up every year—cap going up is a non factor. Why do people keep repeating this notion of the cap going really giving you more cap space—every other position gets more expensive across the league. It is a wash.

 

Yeah, I just meant little swing routes and angle route type things. Certainly not split him out wide. Although splitting him out and doing a WR screen to him could be effective.

 

Eh, it's not nonsense. Its complicated but simple math at its core. Teams can't afford to build a roster of studs anymore because of the salary cap structure, so each team generally have ~2-3 stars on each side of the ball. Great teams have great middle tier players to separate them from average - good teams. This means those middle tier players becomes the meat of your roster. Is the meat of your roster stronger than that of your opponent?

I say that to say by extending your stars early and often, as salaries inflate with an increasing cap, stars account for a smaller % of your cap allowing you to build a great roster regarding those middle tier players. Timing is everything when you look at it that way. This is partly the reason the Patriots remained so good. Because Tom gave home field discounts allowing the Pat's to build a better roster at the middle tier then mostly all other teams.

 

I guess I don’t disagree with what you are saying here, I just don’t understand how this in anyway refutes what I am saying.

The cap went up x percent right? Then average salaries across the board will also go up x percent. So the two cancel each other out. There may be a way to take advantage of for one team for a year, but overall, it is not the gain people keep arguing that it is.

 

I agree with your overall point, the cap going up isnt a big difference maker immediately or in the distant future, but it is in years 3 & 4 of a 4 year deal for a star player if the contract is not back loaded.
