But not because it was dirty. He pulled the ole’ WR cry about a penalty and didn’t get it proving my point even more that there was no penalty to be called AND the ref had more than enough time to drop it if he felt it was.

You can also see that Garrett was done and turning away with Rudolph’s helmet in hand until Rudolph came charging in again.

Ridiculous to think that Rudolph wasn’t the large portion of the escalation. Garrett went way overboard by swinging the helmet but this fight was picked by Rudolph, no question.

What would be the point then, at that point it looked like it was done, when Garrett turns away from Rudolph. When Rudolph charges afterwards, this is like a new fight after the game is completely over.

The point is that Rudolph was mad, decastro can wave his hands for a flag all day, the league has made weaker calls than that, so why not complain I guess. Bottom line, it wasn’t a penalty.

We will never know, will we? Everything escalated too quickly. Bottom line is you cannot definitively say that it wasn’t a penalty. I can say that a hit like that would be called a penalty in every instance over the past 5 seasons.

I agree those have been called before and generally have fans disagreeing with the call but what I was saying is there was no intention by the ref to throw a flag on that particular play.
Fans can disagree on if it should have been but it was called a no penalty.

uhh ........ bottom line is that yeah you CAN say it wasn’t a penalty because the guys who decide declined to call one.

and you can’t validate your statement that every hit like that was called in the past 5 years.

Not really. The initial hit was fine. No ref would have an issue with that. Even the twisting around would have been ok if he eventually let him go. The ref would not have an issue with that either. The issue is when he finishes the tackle and he lands on top of him. That was absolutely roughing the passer by the book, but immediately after they hit the ground, Mason starts pulling and grabbing at Garrett's helmet. There was at most 2 full seconds between the time they hit the ground and when the Ref started breaking up the fight.

And let's remember, refs miss calls all the time. So just because it isn't called doesn't mean it shouldn't have.
