Really? What defense were they in?

 

Everyone talking about how much of a bust Corey Davis is despite him constantly being open and not having a QB who can get him the ball.

Mariota would make any WR short of Randy Moss look like a bust.

It's funny. You guys claim Mariota just stares down his primary wr but when he doesn't, then you ask why?

The wr is taught to look for the ball as soon as he releases but the qb is trying to hold the lb inside. He tried to give Humphries a head start but the LB took a perfect angle and Humphries couldn't beat him one on one. If he throws it earlier when Humph first looks...then you're gonna get a shorter gain if Humph can beat his guy because the other defenders will be closer.

Their D simply beat us on that play. Defenses win on plays too. It's not always this guy played poorly or that guy played poorly. Sometimes the D wins that play.

I haven't watched enough of their D, but I'm guessing Smith thought that LB would be spying Mariota which...given Humphries blocking on the blitz...would make him wide open. The D had a better play and executed it well.
