I’m not saying he’ll go for that. But it won’t be what people on here are suggesting.

I think they are just saying what’d they give for him.

IMO- his value is a 1st round because everybody knows his coach HAS to get him out of the locker room. He’s gone on record he wants out,, he’s been in a witnessed disrespectful altercation etc. The value will only diminish. If he has been offered a 1st and a player, or a 1st and a 5th- I’m betting that’s the best offer the Jags are going to get.

I keep hearing people saying we can’t give up a first round pick because we will need it for a QB...who cares about 1st round picks. Quality QBs can be found in the later rounds. How many 1st round picks turn out to be busts? Our first round QBs picks in the past have been busts or mediocre at best anyway.

Very good to great QB can be found in the second rounds and even later.

I know it’s an outlier but remind me what round the GOAT Brady was taken? Just sayin’ : /

    All second round picks:
    Brett Favre
    Drew Brees
    Derek Carr
    Andy Dalton

Favre and Brees and Brady were drafted in completely different time frames than today. Carr is in a similar situation as Mariota so I don't think he is a great example. And the Bengals haven't won a playoff game with Dalton as the starter and he has been pretty average most of his career. It is certainly possible to find guys in later rounds, but if you look at more recent history, almost every top tier QB was a first round pick, with the exception of Russell Wilson. Of the current starting QBs in the league (not including back ups playing for injured QBs) only Brees, Brady, Wilson, Dalton, Carr, Foles, Garoppolo, and Cousins were drafted outside the first round. 2 of those were drafted almost 20 years ago, and other than Wilson, the rest are pretty average.

ETA: I accidently left off Dak, who has been a solid QB who wasn't drafted in the first. I didn't count Keenum, Brissett, or Fitzpatrick since they are really just back ups acting as place holders for the time being.

I guess my point was, we could hold onto our first round pick and draft Mariota 2.0 when we could’ve considered parting with that pick for a proven player in Jaylen that would make the D even better.

First round doesn’t mean top 10. Lots of quality QB’ s like Lamar Jackson #32, Mahomes #10, Watson #14 and others not in top 10. So really- as long as you have a 1st round- you’ve got a better than decent shot at a franchise caliber QB. And recent history suggests that early 1st round top 5 QB picks don’t pan out all that great. My point is if we finish around 9-7 or 8-8 we would like be in striking distance of landing a high probability to be NFL ready QB. Of course, it all depends on who is in the market for a QB
