Getting Byard locked up before camp was a no-brainer

The NFL top 100 is down to the top 10 and still no Byard! Think they have him top 10?! They must right?

Thats 9 and im probably forgetting someone. So I think it's more likely he was snubbed from the list entirely. Goes to show just how ridiculous this list is, highest paid safety didn't even make the list.

Hopefully I'm wrong because he should be top 20 at the very least.

It’s just the nature of the beast.

Landon Collins was the highest paid safety four months ago and he can’t cover a baby with a blanket.

The next young safety will eclipse Byard. It’s just how it works.

But this goes back to what I’ve been saying for two years; Kevin Byard is a good, solid player. He’s not Ed Reed or Troy Polamalu. There’s nothing wrong with that!

Byard is a glue guy for the defense. He's a top box safety and he led the league in INTs over the past two years and QBs have a horrible QB rating while targeting his area. He's the best safety in the league and is underrated because of draft pedigree, being on a small market team, and not having an overly dominant defense around him which makes him wear multiple hats rather than playing a traditionally identifiable role. I doubt most all time great safeties had to match up in man coverage with the Athletes at TE that Byard has to. Hooker should give him a break in that area

First Ill address your last sentence about Hooker.

Yes his best college work is at Byard's same position, but we're not swapping out a top 3 FS for a rookie on purpose.

As for the big chunk of ridiculousness I highlighted. What do you think made those SafetyS all-time greats? THEY CONSTANTLY COVERED TE'S!

Can’t compare Byard to Reed or Troy P because it’s way too early. Byard is what 25, 3rd full season coming up, he’s got so much ball ahead of him and still has plenty of room to get better and evolve. Barring any significant injury, if he keeps doing what he’s doing there’s no reason why he can’t be an elite safety for years to come. Still early no doubt but he’s definitely on the right path and has all the tools to take his game to the next level.

Can we adopt a new rule? Just dont compare anyone to HoF players until they earn say their 3rd all-pro nomination?

    That's where I disagree.

I think Byard is way more physically limited than those other two. He's slower than both. Byard is way more of a right place/right time kind of guy in coverage when he makes his big plays. There is something to be said for having that skillset, but he isn't the centerfielder Reed was and isn't the disruptor Polamalu was.
